Journalist Andy Rooney, 92, died Nov. 4, just weeks after announcing his retirement on "60 Minutes." According to a news release fro CBS News, Rooney died from complications after a minor surgery. He was a commentator on "60 Minutes" for more than 33 years. Rooney taped 1,096 original essays for the show since July 1978.
ABC News did a sufficient job of covering the death of the significant journalist, including multiple videos remembering Rooney. Compared to CBS News, ABC produced far less content. Because "60 Minutes" airs on CBS, it is understandable why there is more content found on the CBS site. However, it appears that ABC downsized the article in attempts to avoid drawing publicity to a competing news site. I find it upsetting that news conglomerates can have the tendency to focus more on their own success than what is really important: the news, and in this case, the loss of a legend.
