Last week allowed me to do something I've been waiting to do for almost an entire year: bust out my spring jacket. I also ate lunch outside under the sun at Luxembourg Garden one day. I even had my pants rolled up past my ankles another. Spring had finally arrived in Paris, but it apparently didn't intend to stay long. Yesterday I found myself wearing two pairs of socks, a sweater, gloves, a scarf and the warmest coat I packed in my suitcase. Good thing I'm a seasoned professional at living in unpredictable weather conditions (thank you, Wisconsin).
If you know me at all, you would surely be aware of my love for nature and trees. I think that's why spring is my favorite season. Or maybe it's because it's the season that follows every long, bitter winter. Or perhaps it's because I can wear short sleeves again. Regardless of my motives, springtime is my ideal time. But if we had spring all year long, would I still find it as special? I'm realizing more with age that I couldn't be happier to have grown up where I did. Not only because I went to great schools and made great friends, but because I experienced all four seasons each year (sometimes within the same week).
It's normal to shape your music preferences around what you're feeling emotionally, right? But what about what you're feeling physically? I have multiple songs devoted to different times of the year, as seen – or rather, heard – in my "Good Winter" and "Autumn Comes & Autumn Leaves" playlists. I even have a beach-themed playlist on my iTunes. Now normally, I would listen to these playlists during their respective seasons, but that's starting to change.
Maybe it's because of this recently erratic Paris weather, or maybe I'm just going crazy, but I've been listening to all of my seasonal playlists interchangeably over the past week. And it's been pretty great. I encourage you to try it – I'll even help you out. Below is of my personal favorites on my winter playlist, but it also serves as a good transition into spring. Just remember, that doesn't mean you shouldn't try listening it to it in the middle of August. It might be exactly what you need to escape the summer heat and take you back to a rainy (or snowy) day in March.
