At the end of the semester, Professor Herbert Lowe approached me about a summer project through The Washington Post. I was immediately interested – what student journo wouldn't jump at a chance to put such a prestigious new source on his or her résumé? It truly looked like a great opportunity and I waited for a few weeks for confirmation. A few days ago, I received an email from Natalie Jennings of The Washington Post that I would be one of the students participating in The 12 project.
The 12 is essentially a digital collaboration with student journalists from 12 universities in swing states across the United States to help curate and crowd-source election 2012 coverage. Together, we will curate multimedia on Tumblr to strike a discussion about various political issues in the election. The Tumblr account will be featured on PostPolitics.com and promoted throughout the election. I am extremely excited to see my work be linked directly to WashingtonPost.com. Our first group conference call will be June 1, so expect and exciting blogpost with more details in the days following.
I cannot wait to get started on this project. I have always had a passion for politics and during a time of Wisconsin's polarized political climate with the Recall Election a few days away, this could not be a more interesting time to narrow the scope of my journalism. Keep reading to stay informed about Wisconsin's politics and its national implications.
